Eco-friendly Hostess Gifts

How do you find the perfect gift for the hostess that loves nontoxic living? When you're invited to a party or a dinner hosted by someone, it's customary to bring a gift as a token of appreciation. However, if you're conscious about the environment, you may want to choose eco-friendly gifts that reflect your values, or accurately reflects theirs. Not only do these gifts show your thoughtfulness, but they also demonstrate your commitment to sustainable living, and are a great conversation starter! Below are some ideas for the perfect gifts.

Reusable Kitchen Items: Instead of disposable items like paper towels or plastic wrap, give your hostess reusable items that they can use in their kitchen. A set of beeswax wraps, artsy salad bowl fabric covers, or stasher bags can be a great gift that is both practical and sustainable.

Indoor Plants: A beautiful indoor plant is always a great gift idea! Especially one that works well with low light. Snake plants are one of my favorites - they are easy to grow, don't require a ton of water or light, and they mitigate the effects of EMFs! Who knew?! Not only do they add to the décor of a room, but they also help to purify the air. Consider gifting your hostess with a low-maintenance plant like this, or even a succulent.

Sustainable Cleaning Products: Help your hostess maintain a clean and healthy home by gifting eco-friendly cleaning products. Choose products that are made from natural ingredients and come in recyclable packaging. Some of my favorite nontoxic cleaning products to gift are Mama Suds (use code mamabear15 for 15% off). They come in beautiful packaging and are perfect for any mama.

Bamboo Products: Bamboo is a sustainable material that can be used to make a variety of items. Consider gifting your hostess with bamboo cutting boards, bamboo utensils, or bamboo straws. Not only are they functional, but they're also stylish and eco-friendly. Another option would be to have a wooden cutting board, butcher block or appetizer board made locally. There are lots of artists that can be found on Etsy. Many of them coat their boards in only beeswax, and are made without glues or harmful lacquers.

Clean Candles: Candles are a great gift idea that can help create a relaxing and cozy atmosphere. However, many traditional candles are made from paraffin wax, which is derived from petroleum and can release harmful chemicals when burned. Instead, opt for candles made from natural materials like beeswax, or coconut wax. Some of my favorite candle companies include Fontana Candle Company, Solstice Naturals and more!

Recycled Glassware: Glassware is a great gift idea, but instead of buying new, consider gifting your hostess with recycled glassware. Not only is it eco-friendly, but it also adds a unique touch to their home. You can even thrift some unique pieces or find a glass vase to fill with some flowers from the farmers market.

Organic Food or Wine: If you want to gift your hostess with food or drinks, opt for organic or sustainably produced options. Look for wine that is made from organic grapes or food that is sourced from local and sustainable farms. Hand picked apples from a farm, peaches picked up at a local store are all great options that stand out from the crowd of typical gifts. Some of my favorite organic wine to gift is Scout and Cellar. If you have a Costco nearby, you make it lucky finding some organic bottles there as well!

Organic Cotton Dish Towels: Help your hostess reduce their carbon footprint by gifting them organic cotton dish towels. These towels are made from sustainable cotton farming methods and are free from harmful chemicals. They clean thoroughly without the use of synthetic materials and won't release microplastics into the water supply when being washed.

Throw Blanket: You can score an organic cotton throw blanket from companies like Magnolia Organics or Coyuchi, or you can find other oeko tex certified options from Target that are 100% cotton. Throw blankets never get old! Find a neutral color that compliments their style, or go bold with a patterned or printed one.

Reusable Water Bottle: A reusable water bottle is a practical gift that can help reduce single-use plastic waste. Look for bottles that are made from eco-friendly materials such as stainless steel, glass or bamboo. My favorite brands are Klean Kanteen, Epic Pure Water, and Planet Box.

Sustainable Coffee or Tea: If your hostess is a coffee or tea lover, consider gifting them with organic and sustainably sourced coffee or tea. Look for products that are Fair Trade certified or come from farms that practice sustainable farming methods. Some teas even come in compostable bags, made without glues or plastics. Otherwise, I would stick to loose leaf as the best toxin free option. Add a cute cadmium free mug to go with it! My favorite tea mugs are budget friendly, and made by Anchor Hocking.

Zero Waste Starter Kit: Help your hostess embark on a zero-waste lifestyle by gifting them with a zero-waste starter kit. This kit can include items such as a reusable shopping bag, reusable produce bags, a stainless steel straw, and a bamboo utensil set, and any of the items listed above! Mightynest has great options for ecofriendly items that would be perfect for a basket.

Sustainable Home Decor: If your hostess loves decorating their home, consider gifting them with sustainable home decor items. Look for items made from eco-friendly materials such as bamboo, recycled glass, or reclaimed wood. You can even gift them a natural cookbook, or one that educates them on holistic remedies.

In my opinion, I would LOVE to get some of these as gifts! There are many eco-friendly and non-toxic gift ideas that you can consider for a hostess. By choosing sustainable gifts, you're not only showing your appreciation for them, but also making a positive impact on the environment.
