I am deep in the thick of my postpartum era with my fourth baby, who is now almost 4 months old! Bringing a newborn into the world is a miraculous experience, but it also brings a myriad of changes and challenges, including a lack of sleep, am I right?!
Besides being in a time warp, your body and mind are adjusting while you care for your tiny bundle of joy. To make this transition smoother, here are five postpartum favorite products that are indispensable for healing, maintaining sanity, and managing life with a newborn that I love!
Perineal Spray
After a vaginal delivery, your perineal and surrounding area needs extra care to heal. A perineal care kit typically includes a few necessities to help, but don’t forget to include perineal spray from Earth Mama, which is made with clean ingredients and contains absolutely no toxins! It’s a must have (and so are ice packs for that matter). Shop this item here.
Sugar Sugar Postpartum Deodorant
When your hormones are whacky after birth, it can lead to unpleasant odor, and trying to carve out time for regular showers in the postpartum era can be challenging. The nontoxic solution? Postpartum deodorant that smells refreshing and equally as “yummy”. In other words, you’ll smell like a pink sugar cookie dream! This sought after deodorant uses only organic extracts for scent, without any artificial fragrances. This specialized deodorant contains ingredients that eliminate bacterial odor, while leveling up your skin health. The best part? It doesn’t compromise your natural smell like other fragranced products, making breastfeeding or cuddle time with baby uncompromised. It contains absolutely NO aluminum, GMOs, gluten, dairy, artificial fragrance or endocrine disrupting chemicals. Shop this item here.
MomJug
This is one product I can’t live without. It’s a steady tumbler that not only is cute, but keeps you well hydrated during the postpartum months. This is especially important when breastfeeding. I swear I can never drink enough water, but this definitely helps me to stay on track! Shop this item here. Use code JENNA10 for 10% off.
Nursing Pillow
My splurge nursing pillow is from Holy Lamb Organics. My budget friendly nursing pillow is the Boppy with an organic cotton cover. I have to admit, nursing pillows are so comfortable, I’ve fallen asleep on mine a few times in the late night hours. This is a MUST have! Easy to travel with too, unless breastfeeding your child in a carrier.
Supplements
There are a TON of prenatals / postnatals out there and lots of recommendations for breastmilk supply when it comes to herbs, vitamins, etc. Let me start by sharing that seeing a naturopathic practitioner that can muscle test you, do labs, etc. to find out what the best supplements are for you is best. I did that with my most recent birth and postpartum journey and it made a world of difference. Nutritional deficiencies are partly determined by your genes and can negatively affect your immune system as well as fertility and recovery post birth. Personally, I take and use Energetix and Standard Process Supplements. Synergy and Vimergy are also great brands.
For breastmilk supply, these are my favorites (I do utilize fenugreek).
Ayurvedic Organic Lactation by Freshly Moms
Cash Cow from Legendairy Milk
Liquid Gold from Legendairy Milk
Organic Fenugreek by Pure Mom
Organic Moringa by Sweetbottoms Naturals
Organic Blessed Thistle
Brewers Yeast Powder from Legendairy Milk
There are endless brands of lactation supplements out there, but these have worked for me best. If you like to mix in powders, check out the last link which can be added to cookies, smoothies, yogurt and more.
Happy Baby Wrap
This wrap from Happy Baby is made from organic cotton and a blend of other materials. It’s by far my favorite for newborns. As your baby gets older, looking into their more “heavy duty” carriers won’t disappoint either. They have great products. Here’s another option from Wildbird, made from linen.
I didn’t include this on the list, but having a meal train or service set up is EXTREMELY helpful, whether it’s your first or fourth child. Also, lots of quick and healthy snacks prepped for those late nights, in between meals, and after breastfeeding.
Navigating the postpartum period can be overwhelming, but having the right products can make a significant difference in your comfort, healing, and overall sanity. These five postpartum favorites are designed to support you physically and emotionally as you care for your newborn and adjust to your new role as a mom. Prioritizing your well-being is crucial not only for your own health but also for the well-being of your baby.
Remember, a happy and healthy mom is better equipped to care for her little one, so don’t hesitate to invest in these essentials to make your postpartum journey as smooth as possible.
